Amazingly, this 1959 Series II 88” Station Wagon Land Rover has had just two owners from new. The first was a gentleman in Cheshire who owned this Land Rover for 48 years from 1959 before selling to the second owner in 2007. It has always worn its original registration plate, ‘UDK 49’.

Introduced to this car by The Land Rover Centre, Huddersfield, it was they who were commissioned by the most recent owner to undertake a full restoration to better than new. Using a new galvanised chassis, and replacing the diesel engine with a Turner-built 2.25 litre petrol lump, the restoration which followed was thorough yet sympathetic, and retained all original features of this Land Rover, including the 7-seat configuration with four individual rear seats, all clothed in period-correct Elephant Hide material.

Perhaps most importantly, the Safari roof which had been a feature of this car from new was also retained and really sets this car apart.

There are many, many pictures of the thorough restoration, properly documented and presented to show the standard of the work completed, as if the finished article wasn’t proof enough….

The property of the same meticulous owner since the restoration completed in 2008, it has travelled a modest mileage of only some 10,000 miles and always been cherished and maintained alongside other collectable motorcars.
