Supplied new by Stratstone Jaguar in Mayfair in August of ’98, this imposing Platinum Silver XJR has had just a handful of owners since, each covering very modest distance, to the sum of only 26,000 miles.
We had the pleasure of driving this car nearly 300 miles retrieving it to our showroom. It’s plain to see why the XJR was considered Jaguar’s ultimate sports saloon of the time. The 4.0 Supercharged engine is capable of producing some 370bhp when demanded, yet the charcoal leather seats and cabin refinements make even that level of performance feel very gentlemanly indeed. Needless to say ours was an effortless journey and taken completely in it’s stride.
This car has a pleasing service record. It was maintained by Stratstone formerly, with later services completed by independent and competent Jaguar & sports car specialists. Importantly, it benefits from new top chain tensioners and supercharger belt just 1,000 miles ago which were fitted as prevention rather than cure, as these are a commonly recommended service item, albeit, typically, the expectation is that this car should have covered some 75,000 miles, and not just 26,000 at this age!
