Additional Information
1931 Bentley 4/8-Litre Tourer in the style of Captain Woolf Barnato’s ‘Blue Train Special’ by Gurney Nutting.
Constructed in May 1931 as a 4-litre Bentley with open four-seater touring body by Harrison, our Bentley was to become the property of its first owner, Captain G.F. Earle.
Extensive upgrades were conducted in the late 1930’s by Bowlers/McKenzie to include a 6.5 litre engine (KR2689) and steering column from chassis #KR2691 (both retained to this day) and a new Coupe De Ville Body was fabricated onto the original 4-Litre chassis.
In 1980 our car was repatriated to the UK after some twenty years in the USA. It was at that time rebodied in Le Mans Style by Jolley Engineering for their customer, E. A. Twigger.
The imposing and unique ‘Blue Train-esque’ body as you see today was constructed by Crailville of Southall around 1993-95 and commissioned by the new owner, Jurgen Pyritz. Major engineering was also carried out to the powerplant which took the 6,597cc and pushed it on to 8,000cc, comprising new phoenix crank and rods by Stanley Mann Racing. Now producing in the region of 250bhp, it makes for impressive top-end performance, though do remember to give consideration for when you need to stop.
A short time later, now in ownership in the USA once more, our Bentley took part in the 2007 outing of the Annual Colorado Grand Road Rally, for which, it was the cover car on the route book with artwork by Bill Neale. Recent correspondence with the owner at that time confirms that 1,000 or more miles were completed happily alongside some of the world’s most important cars.
In family ownership since acquisition from Stanley Mann’s Fruit Farm in 2010, ‘GP 9604’ has been expertly maintained and used regularly, albeit often only locally, alongside several other cars of the era. Manor Classic Cars Ltd are proud to offer this exceptional and unrepeatable Bentley for sale…
