Additional Information
The “Big Healey” 3000 has a solid basis in rallying with no fewer than five brand new ‘Works’ cars built and campaigned for the 1961 season.
Although our car from 1962 was originally registered as a road car, it has been used for greater things since the late-90s, most seriously since 2005 when it has been the property of an enthusiastic rally competitor.
Power is courtesy of a period correct 3000cc straight-six engine, albeit heavily breathed-on with Piper camshaft, triple carburettors, and oil-cooler all of which is thought to be producing some 165bhp. The gearbox remains the standard 4-speed unit with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears. The engine was most recently rebuilt in 2014 by respected rally exponents, KSS North Ltd of Lancashire.
The cabin is a purposeful yet comfortable space, re-trimmed to a high standard in 2017 and utilising bucket seats and Willans harnesses for safety and to increase space in the cabin for driver and navigator. The dashboard is awash with all the necessary tools of the trade, and all within easy reach for pilot and co-pilot, as you’d expect from a proven competition car.
The bodywork of our car is in very good order. It’s incredibly solid and further benefits from enhanced reinforcement to the underside. By standards of a rally car the Black paintwork is also very good, but by no means perfect, though you need only stand back a yard or two and all is forgiven. Remember, shinier paintwork won’t win you any more points or see you complete a stage any quicker…..
Our car is offered with a considerable history file documenting its build and maintenance. It is accompanied by its V5C, its original buff log book, FIVA registration document, valid MOT, and two keys.
A very many rally successes were recorded from behind the wheel of a ‘Big Healey’ and, in the right context, with the right navigator, this car has the utmost potential to continue that success under new ownership…
