As the advertising slogan claimed; “Grace, Space, Pace”, and its present in spades here. ….Well, perhaps not enough “Pace” to threaten the likes of the C & D-Types which campaigned so successfully for Jaguar in this era, but truthfully, the 3.5 litre engine as shared with the top-spec SS100 of the time is no slouch and will seemingly power on all day with four passengers in enormous comfort on board….

Our original-colour and matching numbers Mk.V drophead coupe boasts Suede Green paintwork with Suede Green upholstery and was dispatched when new in January 1951 by Henlys Limited, London.

The car we’re offering for sale has been the subject of much care and attention over the years, with the generous history file recognising an early 90’s restoration first, followed by a series of significant mechanical works in 2015/2016, and further cosmetic improvements in 2019.

In the middle 2010’s the major focus of attention was to fully repaint the car in original colour Suede Green, which has been completed to a very good standard, and to address many major mechanical components such as the complete braking system, a new replacement exhaust, reconditioned manifolds, reconditioned steering box, cooling system, including radiator pipes and hoses, plus fuel pipes and engine gaskets to limit any small leaks which were becoming apparent. New tyres were fitted at this time, the electrics were all checked, an electric choke fitted, and all engine, gearbox and differential oils replaced.

Some short time later, in 2019, further attention was given, this time primarily to the three-position convertible roof which is now in enormously impressive condition with thick, insulated headlining. At the same occasion, the interior woodwork was removed and treated, before being refitted, and various chrome fixtures and fittings were also renewed.

The result of all the effort, time and monies invested in this car has been more than repaid since it presents today as a very handsome period Jaguar suitable for carrying four-passengers in comfort and with character to motoring events up and down the country, or even Europe. It further benefits from a generous file giving evidence of the ample service history and maintenance receipts.

To us, Jaguar saloons and tourers of this period have little compromise, except in their cost, to the equivalent model from Bentley or even Rolls-Royce, and as such, they represent enormous value given the job they are able to do, and the competence with which they do it….
