The NEW Turbocharged PORSCHE 911

Since the launch of the 911 in 1963, Porsche have been striving to make each new 911 sharper and more exciting to drive! In 2016, Porsche Centre Hong Kong released another update for their 911 lineup, the second generation 991 Carrera, or simply put 991.2. From the outside not much has changed, the front bumper now has Active air intake flaps; for increased cooling. The rear grill has vertical slats instead of horizontal – giving the car a more classic, refined look. Furthermore, if you look down from the grill towards the rear bumper you will notice some vital air outlets in the bumper… That’s because Porsche have once again broken away from tradition, and introduced a 3 litre, turbo-charged boxer engine for the Carrera models. The last time Porsche announced a major update was in 1998, when they switched from air-cooled to water-cooled motors. Initially, it caused some commotion amongst fans, but once reviews were published, Porsche proved as always that they were ahead of the game.

The new 911 answers questions about the future of the sports car with a quantum leap in performance. By reducing fuel consumption, but not by suppressing emotions. By following a principle that has already changed everything once before: in 1974, with the first 911 Turbo. Turbocharged induction makes their engine not only more efficient, but also more powerful.

The base Carrera model develops 370 hp and boosts an impressive torque figure of 450 Nm, which is delivered as low 1,700 rpm. Whilst the Carrera S, delivers an extra 50 hp and 50 Nm, taking the power up to 420 hp and torque of 500 Nm, thanks to the bigger turbos!

The stand-out qualities of the new twin turbo engines are their extraordinarily direct responsiveness and wide torque plateau. In short: excellent performance that feeds back to the driver in an instant. Porsche claims the base 911 will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.6 seconds (manual) 4.4 seconds (PDK). Those that opt for the Sports Chrono Package can shave another 0.2 seconds and achieve a sprint time of 4.2 seconds (Sport +). Overall, very impressive figures for a sports car that can be used day in and day out.

Another advantage of owning the new Carrera in Hong Kong: lower annual licence fees! Because the engine’s displacement has decreased to 3 litres, the new 911 has now dropped one tier lower on the ‘Transport Department’s Vehicle Licence fee’ table.

The latest 991.2 Porsche is designed to be more comfortable and better for everyday use, something Hong Kong consumers will appreciate. Much of the high quality interior remains the same, with more adjustment over the seating and steering wheel positions; ensuring you have the perfect driving experience. The Sports Chrono package, pictured above, also features a rotary dial on the wheel, derived from the 918 Spyder. This allows the driver to switch between four driving modes; Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.

Integrated as standard across the range: Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with 7-inch multi-touchscreen, including online navigation module, real-time traffic information, voice control system and mobile phone preparation as well as the Connect Plus module. PCM is now your gateway to the digital world!

The new 911 Carrera models are already available from Porsche Centre Hong Kong, with prices starting from HK$1,897,000 for the Carrera and HK$2,152,000 for the Carrera S. Those who prefer Cabriolet models can expect to add an additional HK$226,000 on-top of the models quoted. The new generation 911 has taken all the best features from the original, then tweaked and enhanced them. Now you can be quicker, more powerful whilst being greener and cleaner!
