Photography Interview – Marco Tam
In keeping up with our fascination of Hong Kong’s local photography talent, we caught up with another young, aspiring photographer Marco Tam. Although Marco wasn’t one of our #10besthkcartrader photo contestants, you will see his talent featured on our homepage and in upcoming future projects we have in-store for him!
My name is Marco Tam, i am a car photographer born in Hong Kong. I am currently 21. My passion for cars and car photography started when I was a kid. I was always a big fan of racing games and most of them allowed you to take photos using their in-game photo mode. Photographing in games allowed me to experiment with countless of angles, compositions, shutter speeds, etc. Below are some of my early photos that I took which sparked my passion for car photography.
As I grew up, I began to crave for my driving license. I passed my first time and was lucky enough to be given a brilliant BMW E46 3-Series after driving an ancient S-Class for a while. This was when I bought a new camera; a humble yet powerful Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II and started photographing real cars, especially my own.
Combing previous experience and experimentation with angles and focal views within video games as well as photographing 1:18 die-cast cars. I was able to learn and improve quickly.
My favourite photographing technique is light-painting, as it allows my photos to stand out amongst others. The placing of your light and the way you angle it can have a huge impact on how the overall photograph looks and feels. There is a lot to learn from, using this technique.
Below are some of my personal favourite shots of the past few months and years.
As a boy with a camera; aka: a photographer, I am always looking to find more job opportunities and meet more car people in the very near future. Feel free to find me through my Facebook page: Marco Automotive Photography.
